Well, if it isn't Springtime in Colorado! 🌬️🍃 Mother Nature decided to get a little crazy with us over the weekend with the wind. While irrigation season hasn't fully kicked off, the tumbleweeds blown into the canal have become a nuisance to the recharge pond inlet and the instruments used to measure the water. If one bunch floats down the canal and begins to dam up the headgates or even the main waterway, it can lead to a lot bigger problems. Christensen Ranch had an amazing day at the Mounta

Christensen Ranch had an amazing day at the Mountaintop Tasting at the @tasteofvail yesterday afternoon. We provided the Brisket and Short Ribs that were cooked by various Chefs throughout the state. We were only able to snag a few pictures of @thehythevail, @fsvail, and @mobeagleco Moe's Original BBQ - Eagle, CO while they were at their tents, but we were very impressed with the 10 others who were also cooking our beef! The turnout for this event was absolutely incredible, and we were thrilled to see how many different ways you are able to cook these cuts.

While we were excited to sample the extensive variety of wine, whiskey, and good food, we also enjoyed meeting with individuals from all around the country at our booth. We not only got to share our beef with all those who attended, but we were lucky enough to share a little part about who we are and what we do. The wind, however, took a little bit of a toll on our artistic abilities, forcing us to use rocks and duck tape to anchor down our flyers and posters!

One of the best parts of our day was meeting a long-time customer, Brad Farans, who took the time out of his day to come introduce himself. It is always a pleasure for us to meet those individuals who continually support our business and believe in our product!

Being involved in and supporting our community is important to our whole family and we're excited to share our support for an impactful organization dedicated to supporting veterans, Gold Star children, and first responders. @WingsUpOutdoors is a volunteer, combat veteran 501c3 organization out of Texas dedicated to continuing the legacy of those lost in combat, providing a much-needed support network for returning veterans, and helping children who have lost a parent in combat.

When Wings Up Outdoors board member Jerry Richardson reached out to us, we knew this was an organization and an event we wanted to support. Jerry is the brother of Chad Littlefield who was killed alongside Chris Kyle, former Navy SEAL and author of the bestselling autobiography, American Sniper, at a shooting range in Chalk Mountain, TX. Wings Up Outdoors allows him to honor the legacy of his brother, and so many other hero's who have served.

We join a wide range of organizations supporting the 1st Annual Benefit Golf Tournament in Grand Prairie, TX. Over 100 golfers from around the country will participate in the tournament and auction (which features our Premium Steak Box!) with all monies raised going toward outdoor adventures for veterans, first responders, and Gold Star children.

We hope this inaugural golf tournament is a huge success!

Today, we enjoyed the views of the mountains from I70 and a glimpse of what our water year for 2024 could shape up to be from the snowpack. We're still trying to get as much done this week as we can before we head west up the mountain to the Taste of Vail! Today, Eric was rolling up barbed wire from an old line of fence. We needed to get this project completed before we ran out of spare time and would have to fight off the weeds. We used a fun machine mounted to the back of the tractor; running on the hydraulics and winding the used wire back onto the spool. Technology in agriculture is constantly changing and improving, and one way we use the technology available to us is by using EID tags. This form of identification allows us to track both the health and history of our animals, as well as improve the quality of our genetics and beef over time.

EID Tags, or an electronic identification device, is a "button-like" tag placed in the ear of all of our cattle. In this video Eric goes in to depth to explain the use of EID tags, and how they benefit us. While we think Eric did a great job, the steer in the chute became a little impatient as we all were trying to get our video taken!

We had a little bit of tough luck when it came to weekend chores this morning! While having equipment issues is never fun, it seems to be a little worse when something breaks on a weekend. With our main loader in the shop still awaiting repairs, popping a tire on our old loader was not the ideal way to start our Sunday. At some point during morning chores, one of the loader tires caught a piece of rebar that was sticking out of the cement of our ear corn pit. While it may not be the most ideal solution, we were thankful to have the backhoe around to get us through chores until we can get someone out tomorrow to fix the tire on the loader!
