We've been pretty busy running equipment on the ra We've been pretty busy running equipment on the ranch over the past month. Once hay harvest was finished, we hit the grass circle with the swather to knock down the grass that was starting to seed out. Typically, we have enough cattle grazing throughout the summer we don't have to cut this circle, but with only 50 head of replacement heifers and two bulls on this entire circle, we aren't grazing it hard enough to keep the grass grazed down. When the grass gets tall enough it starts producing seed, the cows no longer want to eat it, and because it is taller than the grass they are eating, the seeds start to poke them in the eyes. This can cause pink eye or other irritations, so we had to cut the grass to keep everything as healthy as possible!

Jeff happened to be checking cows when he noticed Jeff happened to be checking cows when he noticed one of the air risers in the middle of the pasture was leaking water. 💦After further investigation, he found that the riser needed replaced as it wasn't sealing off when the water pressure was high enough to push water to our tanks. This turned into a bigger project than Jeff had anticipated, as he not only had to replace the air riser, but also some of the pipe, as it was leaking as well. Jeff may have spent the day playing plumber, but his biggest accomplishment was keeping the curious calves away from the hole he had to dig!

The majority of June was spent getting first cutti The majority of June was spent getting first cutting of alfalfa cut and put up for feed. While this project normally only takes us a week or so, the storms that were spread out throughout June prevented us from being in the fields consistently. Since our days were limited, we had a few days working overtime hours to try and get everything cut. We're thankful for the extra help we had throughout harvest, from both neighbors and family, and are excited second cutting isn't far behind!

We're a little late to the party, but it's better We're a little late to the party, but it's better late than never! For Christmas, Kathy got a custom sign from her daughter Becky and son-in-law Chris that they made themselves! After a lot of debate, Kathy finally decided to put the sign up at the freezer and packing facility so it's the first thing customers see when they come out to pick up their beef. We are happy the sign is finally getting put to good use, and we might be biased, but we think it turned out pretty good!

We have some exciting news! Em, Kirsten's retired We have some exciting news! Em, Kirsten's retired show horse and Tobyn's favorite mount, has a confirmed heartbeat on her breeding for this next year! 🍼 While Kirsten is pretty excited to have another project on the way, Tobyn is just excited to have a baby on the ground. Em has been in and out of retirement, but she is happy to be a fulltime broodmare, and doesn't mind packing Tobyn around whenever he decides to go for a ride.

Can you spot what Jeff did out in the pasture when Can you spot what Jeff did out in the pasture when checking cows? On his drive, he caught a badger running through the grass looking for the closest hole. While we know we have them around the ranch, it isn't very often that we actually see them. Eric tells us he'd like to catch one and keep it as a pet, but we decided he's on his own for that one! 🤣

While we were a little late getting this job done, the frequent rain showers we have had made sure the corn was getting enough water to start growing. Berrie just so happened to be the lucky one who got to put on the waders and go for a swim to get the job done!

These stunning shots, captured by Kelsey (our ranc These stunning shots, captured by Kelsey (our ranch hand, Berrie's, wife) on the ranch, showcase the dramatic beauty of another storm rolling in early June. Just a couple of days earlier, on June 5th, we experienced a major storm that caught everyone off guard.

The crew had to take cover quickly as hail pelted down without warning. Thankfully, the storm was short-lived, and while one circle took a pretty good hit, the rest of the ranch weathered the storm fairly well. Moments like these remind us of the power of nature and the importance of staying prepared.

Nix the Wonder Dog has been enjoying his well-earn Nix the Wonder Dog has been enjoying his well-earned retirement for about a year now. These days, his favorite activity is napping, though he occasionally indulges in playful 'puppy moments,' scattering his toys around for us to see.

While he deals with some joint pain, he absolutely relishes the extra love and attention—especially after those heart-melting 'pity stretches.'

On occasion, Eric and Jodi will take him for a ride to the pasture to see the cows, a trip that involves Eric carefully lifting him in and out of the pickup. True to his personality, Nix barks the entire ride, making sure his voice is heard every step of the way.

Connor has been hard at work getting things cleane Connor has been hard at work getting things cleaned up around the ranch. With all of the free time we have had lately (😅), Connor has been pulling out dead trees and planting new ones to try and fill in gaps in our tree lines. While this is sometimes more work than it is worth, putting in trees can help with the spring winds we have and gives both the cattle and horses a break from the conditions that come with the Colorado Plains.

Jeff might think his favorite thing is to train ho Jeff might think his favorite thing is to train horses, but we think he missed his calling as a cow wisperer. After working his horses, Gerald came into the arena to say hello, and rather than pushing him where he wanted him to go, Jeff decided it would be easier to lead him. These two are quite the pair! 🤣

Help us wish Larry a very Happy Birthday today! 🎉

Larry may be retired, but he still rolls in for coffee with the crew whenever he gets the chance. He checks in, makes sure everything's still running the way it should - and without fail, ends every visit with: "Life's getting way more complicated."

Some things never change, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
