Can you spot the calf in the herd of heifers? While calving out heifers has its highs and lows, it is always interesting to see how they react to new calves hitting the ground. Some heifers take to the new mom life rather quickly, while some take some time to warm up to the new rugrat they have following them around. We were glad this heifer took to her calf from the get go and didn't let the surrounding heifers licking on her calf bother her!

We have some exciting news to share! We would like to announce our beef and tallow balms are now available for purchase at Sagebrush Market, LLC in Fort Morgan, CO. Not only can you purchase our individual cuts of beef and our scented tallow balms directly from the store, but they also sell handmade soaps and candles, spices, whole foods, and much more!

While the store was established in 2023, the business has recently undergone a change of ownership, one we are proud to say is very close to the family. Earlier this month Chris & Becky Weimer purchased the business, and they are working hard to bring in new products and are excited to start this new venture!

They are open from 10a.m. to 5p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, so stop in and say hi next time you are in town!

Even though Mesa likes to be in the action most days, she figured she'd keep an eye on Jeff while he was working if she was going to have to stay in the pickup. Her instructions weren't quite clear, so she figured hanging out of the window fell under "stay."

We got a load of DDG in this afternoon, so we had to take a break from our regularly scheduled plans to get it put away. DDG stands for dried distillers grain, which is the by-product of ethanol production, when the fermentation of starch from grains (usually corn) is turned to ethanol, the reminning residue is used as a feed ingredient for beef cattle. We use this product as it is a good source of protien, energy, and other nutrients in the diet of cattle!

We're kicking off the week with a pretty busy day

We're kicking off the week with a pretty busy day getting the Fall Herd moved to the ranch, sorting calves and cows so we can precondition them, and taking them all back to our east yard. It was all hands on deck first thing this morning, using 3 four-wheelers, 2 horses, and 1 feed truck to keep all heads pointed in the right direction. While this may seem like an unnecessary amount of people, the cows and calves can get a little stressed when moving as they don't always stay together, and there are always a few head who are trying to leave and go back to where we got them, looking for their mother or baby.

Add in the freeze and thaw cycles that we get in our region, and the metal will show fatigue over time.
