Even though we've gotten a few small showers at th Even though we've gotten a few small showers at the feedlot throughout the month, the pastures aren't quite getting enough rain to keep the grass growing for the cows to eat. That being said, the cows are on the move quite a bit this summer, hitting different sections of pasture to not only make sure they are getting enough nutrients, but that we don't overgraze any of the pastures and kill what vegetation is growing. The Fall herd took a trip down the county road heading to greener grass! With all we have going on and being as busy as we are, we recruited Tobyn to help move cows for the day and we think it's safe to say he might just enjoy farm life a little more than school!

Eric put his welding skills to work and built an i Eric put his welding skills to work and built an impressive flagpole for the branding site using pipe that is commonly used around the feedlot. He topped it with a 5' x 8' American flag, and the finished project turned out beautifully. The flag now proudly waves over the branding grounds, adding a special touch to a place where friends, family, and neighbors gather to work together each spring and fall. 🇺🇸

Some days don't go quite as planned... especially Some days don't go quite as planned... especially those where you feel like everything needs to get done just a little quicker. Kirsten was merging rye to help the chopper get through the field a little quicker, but a piece of debris left in the field from one of our implements made for a temporary interruption. Thankfully the whole crew worked quickly and got the tire off and replaced so that she could get back in the field and keep the trucks running!

Who better to grace our Sunday morning than Gerald Who better to grace our Sunday morning than Gerald? He might not seek you out when you're in the pasture, but if you happen to stop to say hi, he is more than happy to come get some scratches. Gerald is enjoying his time outside grazing some green grass and hanging out with all the ladies!

Every now and then the arena gets used for somethi Every now and then the arena gets used for something more than riding our horses. When we have to move calves between different yards, the arena makes for a great stopping place before we get to the main feed yard, to make sure all of the calves are in one big bunch rather than being spread out. Whenever you move calves you can always count on the first ten head to take off and go play, while there are always about ten head who hang in the back who you have to force to keep going! At the very least they always keep it interesting! 🤣

A few weeks ago we pulled the chopper in the shop A few weeks ago we pulled the chopper in the shop so Berrie could convert it from ear corn to haylage. While this isn't necessarily a hard project, it is time consuming and takes getting into some small spaces. Thankfully it only took Berrie a few days to get everything switched over and hooked back up. Now that the chopper is ready to roll, we will be spending quite a few days in the fields chopping triticale, rye and alfalfa. Wish us luck!

Eric, Jodi, Tyler, and Allie spent Memorial Day mo Eric, Jodi, Tyler, and Allie spent Memorial Day moving their herd to the pasture closer to home. Having the cows nearby makes it much easier to check on them, deliver mineral, and make sure all the escape artists are still accounted for and staying on their side of the fence.
This pasture also happens to be Red Rover's home away from home.

Let the games begin, Sir Red Rover! 👀🐂

We had a wonderful Sunday afternoon at Country Roa We had a wonderful Sunday afternoon at Country Road Vines and Wines at the Ranch & the Vine Experience. We cooked three different cuts of meat, all of which were carefully paired with different locally produced wines. We also had dessert provided by Bountiful Blessings Pies and Baked Goods. The evening was filled with high quality beef, tasty wine, unique desserts, and wonderful company.

Thank you to everyone who attended and for letting us share our story with you! We hope everyone had a wonderful time!

All of our bulls are on a bit of a break, so they All of our bulls are on a bit of a break, so they are turned out to pasture getting to enjoy some down time. The unfortunate part is that means the bulls are in the pasture with all of the other wildlife the Colorado plains have to offer. On one of our drives through the pasture to check on all of the animals, this guy's swollen head really stood out. We're guessing he had his head down eating when he found a rattle snake 🐍. Thankfully his airway was still clear, and we gave him medicine to bring the swelling down. After a few days of monitoring, he'll be back out to pasture and can enjoy a few more weeks of down time before it's time to go to work!

While the moisture did kick us out of the field for a few days, no one around here is complaining!

It was a great day for our spring branding in late It was a great day for our spring branding in late May. Jodi spent Friday evening and Saturday morning preparing lunch for all the hardworking friends, neighbors, and family members who came to help. After the work was done, nearly 80 people gathered to enjoy a steak lunch with all the fixings.

To feed the crew, Jodi prepared approximately 33 pounds of au gratin potatoes and 24 pounds of beans, while cousin Mike fired up the grill and cooked 85 New York strip steaks. We are incredibly grateful for everyone who pitched in to help make the day a success. Events like this are a great reminder of the strong community and friendships that make ranch life so special. 🥩
