Bringing Your Bulk Beef Home: Freezer Space Guide

Freezer filled with steaks and other custom cuts of beef

Purchasing beef in bulk, directly from ranchers like us, is called bulk beef or beef shares. Simply put, you get enough meat to fill your freezer and you pay less per pound than you pay at your local grocery store. You pay the same price per pound for Rib Eye steaks and Prime Rib roast as you do for Ground Beef. Our price per pound is calculated on the live weight of the animal.

We sell our natural Red Angus beef in both Custom Bulk Beef Shares and Standard Beef Shares.

Custom Bulk Beef Shares

Customize every cut! Choose your steak thickness and roast size, plus select specialty cuts like Brisket, Organ Cuts, Ribs, and more. We sell our custom bulk beef shares in three sizes:

  1. Quarter Beef
  2. Half Beef
  3. Whole Beef

Standard Beef Shares

Our standard beef shares include all the cuts you’d receive in a typical side of beef and they ship right to your door! The quantity of each cut differs for each share size.

  1. Eighth Beef
  2. Quarter Beef
  3. Half Beef

Because you’ll receive your entire order of beef at one time, it’s important to make sure you have enough freezer space to accommodate your order. Use this quick guide to select the right size beef, and the right amount of freezer space. Our beef can remain delicious for up to one year when kept frozen. We recommend using multiple deep freezers when you purchase a half or whole freezer beef so you have easy access to all your cuts of beef.

Quarter Beef Freezer Space

  • When you order a quarter beef, you’ll receive approximately 80 – 110 pounds of Christensen Ranch freezer beef.
  • You’ll need at least 10 cubic feet of freezer space to accommodate your freezer beef.

Half Beef Freezer Space

  • You’ll receive approximately 160 – 220 pounds of beef when you order a half beef.
  • Your freezer beef will require at least 20 cubic feet of freezer space.

Whole Beef Freezer Space

  • You’ll receive approximately 320 – 440 pound’s of beef when you order a whole beef.
  • You’ll need at least 40 cubic feet of freezer space.

Choosing the Right Freezer for Your Beef Share

Chest freezers are often the best choice for storing a significant amount of meat due to their spacious design. Upright freezers can also work, but their shelving configuration may be less conducive to storing large cuts.

  • Standard upright freezers have varying capacities, usually ranging from 5 to 20 cubic feet.
  • Chest freezers typically offer larger storage space, ranging from 15 to 25 cubic feet.

Ideal Freezer Temperature

Set your freezer to the recommended temperature for storing meat, usually around 0°F (-18°C). Maintaining the proper temperature ensures the quality and safety of the meat over an extended period.
